3PL Germany
Third Party Logistics in Germany
3PL is a broad term covering everything from a freight forwarder to a full contract logistics operation. Knowing which kind you actually need is most of the work of choosing one.
Definitions
3PL, fulfillment and contract logistics — what the terms mean
Third-party logistics (3PL) means outsourcing logistics functions to an external provider. That is deliberately broad: a company that only moves freight between ports is a 3PL, and so is a company that stores your goods, picks orders and ships them to end customers.
Fulfillment is the narrower, order-facing part of that: receiving, storing, picking, packing, dispatching and handling returns for individual orders. Most companies searching for a "3PL" for their European business are describing a fulfillment need.
Contract logistics usually refers to a large, long-term arrangement where a provider runs a dedicated operation to a customer's specification — typically at a scale and commitment level well above a growing company's first European stock position.
Madyel is a 3PL in the fulfillment sense: your goods are stored in our German operation and we run the order-facing work around them. We are not a freight forwarder and we do not run dedicated single-client sites.

Selection
What to check before signing with any German 3PL
Provider websites converge on the same service list, so the list tells you very little. The questions below are the ones whose answers actually differ — and the ones a provider who is not a good fit tends to answer vaguely.
We would rather you asked us these and got a plain answer, including where the answer is a limitation.
Ask every provider
- Is inbound stock physically counted and inspected, or accepted on paperwork?
- How do you handle my heaviest and largest article specifically?
- Are storage, handling, pick-and-pack and shipping quoted separately?
- What are the liability limits and what is excluded from cover?
- What is the contract term and the notice period?
- What happens to my goods on termination or in a payment dispute?
- Can you take my volume, and from what date?
- What is genuinely live today versus on your roadmap?
Fit
Where Madyel fits, and where it does not
Madyel is a good fit for companies whose goods are technical, industrial, heavy or documentation-bound, for B2B and mixed B2B/D2C sellers, and for companies establishing a European stock position for the first time. Those are the cases where careful receiving, article-level discipline and B2B shipping matter more than raw parcel throughput.
Madyel is not the right fit for very high-volume, uniform consumer parcel operations where the deciding factor is cost per parcel at scale. A large e-commerce-specialised 3PL will serve that better, and we will tell you so rather than take the work.
We also do not currently offer live platform or ERP integrations, and there is no self-service client portal yet. Both are planned. If either is a requirement for you today, that is a reason to look elsewhere and we would rather you knew now.
Questions we get
About 3PL in Germany
What is the difference between a 3PL and a fulfillment provider?
Fulfillment is one of the services a 3PL can offer. A 3PL might only handle freight, or only warehousing, or the full order-facing operation. If you need goods stored and orders shipped to your customers, you are looking for a 3PL that does fulfillment — which is what Madyel does.
How is 3PL pricing structured in Germany?
Typically as separate components: storage by space and period, inbound handling per delivery, pick and pack per order and line, shipping by destination and shipment type, and value-added services priced individually. Be careful with a single blended rate — it hides which part of your cost is driven by stock and which by orders.
Do you serve the whole EU from Germany?
We ship from our German operation to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Sweden, Poland, Czechia, Austria, Italy and Spain. If your main market is elsewhere in the EU, ask us — the answer may be yes, but we will confirm rather than assume.
How many warehouses do you operate?
One, in Germany. We are not going to describe a multi-city network we do not have. If that changes, this page will name the location and the date.
